Perth, Australia lies in Western Australia. Willem de Vlamingh explored the area around 1697. Charles Howe Fremantle owned part of the area in 1829. That same year, Perth was founded, but was known as the Swan River Colony. James Stirling gave Perth its name, which honors the Scottish city of Perth. Perth has access to Swan River, Joondalup, Darling Scarp and Mandurah. The Perth metropolitan area includes Peppermint Grove, Bayswater, Fremantle, Armadale, Gosnells and Stirling.
